Epilepsy is one of the most common neurologic disorders worldwide and refers to recurrent, unprovoked seizures. Uncontrolled seizures are disruptive to daily life, impair memory and cognitive function, and carry other risks - including sudden death. There are a number of effective surgical options available for patients whose seizures cannot be controlled with medications alone.

Stereotactic EEG is a robot-guided technique used to help determine where seizures are arising in the brain. Once seizures have been localized, patients may be candidates for surgery to remove or burn the diseased brain tissue using a craniotomy or a minimally invasive technique called laser ablation. In patients where there is not a single seizure zone or when the above techniques are not an option, there are a variety of neuromodulation procedures available: responsive neurostimulation (RNS)deep brain stimulation (DBS), and vagus nerve stimulation (VNS).
