Parkinson’s Disease

Parkinson’s Disease is a common, disabling neurodegenerative disorder that can cause tremor, rigidity, slowness, difficulty walking, and other motor and cognitive symptoms. Motor symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease can often be managed effectively with medications, but symptoms tend to worsen as the disease progresses, and the medications themselves can have bothersome side effects, including involuntary movements or tics. Deep brain stimulation is an established, safe treatment for certain patients with Parkinson’s symptoms that are difficult to control with medications.
