Brain Imaging with Dr. Arias

Being diagnosed with a brain tumor can be scary and life-altering. Part of the initial evaluation after a brain tumor is diagnosed is imaging. This can include a CT scan or an MRI.

A CT scan can give a low detailed picture of what's going on within the skull or the brain itself. An MRI is a high-quality, high-definition picture that shows great detail about the brain and the tumor. Sometimes more in-depth imaging will be used, such as a functional MRI, which shows where certain functions and behaviors within the brain are localized. Specific areas of the brain that control speech or movements of an arm or a leg, can be seen. This allows for a very safe and minimally invasive approach towards the tumor that disrupts as little normal brain as possible.
